Last night, Chris Doan took down the latest massive guaranteed event here at the 2018 LAPC, winning the $300,000 Guaranteed Event for over $68,000 after a three way chop. The score is the biggest of Doan’s career, and it also came with an added bonus.
“I feel great, especially because it puts me in the lead for the No-Limit points lead, so that’s great.”
Doan admitted that he was nearly out the door early on in the Day 2 restart, getting it in bad, but getting lucky to double up. From there, it was smooth sailing, Doan told us.
“I got really lucky early on with Ace-Queen vs. Ace-King for a big double up and then I just coasted the rest of the day. I picked up some big hands at the final table.”
Doan came into the final table in the middle of the pack, but he scored a massive double up early on through Mark Jun, who at the time was the chip leader.
“It started off with queens when a guy had tens and shipped a huge pot over to me and after that it was a coast. I lost the lead a bit at the end but picked up two big hands, jacks and kings, and that was it really.”
As mentioned before, the victory means Doan is now in the lead in the No-Limit Hold’em Player of the Series. Doan said it’s something that he really wants to gun for now that he’s in contention, mainly because it’s not something he had considered before.
“It would be pretty awesome because it’s never something I really thought about until I one day looked at it and saw I was in contention, I thought maybe I have a shot at it.”
Doan joked that he will go to great lengths to potentially earn the Player of the Series honor.
“I’m firing the $25k event!” he said with a smile before admitting, “No I don’t think I’ll be changing my schedule much.”
Congratulations to Chris Doan on his victory, and good luck in the Player of the Series race!
