Earlier today, Shawn Yu finished on top of a three way chop that saw him take home over $5,500, and his first Remington Trophy. Amazingly enough, Yu and Quoc Le received the same amount of money in the chop, but since Yu had a single 500 chip more, he was awarded the trophy.
“I feel great it was an amazing opportunity. It’s my first LAPC event that I’ve taken down so I’ll remember this for awhile.”
Yu told us after his victory that his Day 1 was quite up and down, going from the top of the leaderboard to dipping down during the later stages of the day.
“My Day 1 was actually pretty exciting. I was chip leader at one point and then I was down to nine bigs, and the last two levels I just caught hands and went from there.”
Yu came into the final table in the middle of the pack, but was able to survive the first few payjumps before picking up some hands, and making some moves. While most people want to be the chip leader at the start of the final table, Yu said he is usually very happy to be in the middle.
“I love coming into final tables in the middle of the pack. I caught some hands had to make some folds with two pairs and ended up taking it down.”
Yu said that he only planned on playing four to six events here at the 2018 LA Poker Classic, but with the nice boost to his bankroll, and the 35 Player of the Series points that come with the victory, his plans might change a bit.
“I’m very excited right now. Player of the Series is definitely something I’m keeping my eye on. I know Craig (Chait) is smashing it, but let’s see if I can catch him.”
Chait is indeed smashing it, having already registered a first, second, third, and sixth just two weeks into the series. Stay tuned to the coverage all series long to find out if Yu or anyone else can make a run at it!
